Bridgestone raises $2.3 million for United Way

NASHVILLE, Tenn.—Food on pantry shelves, support to ensure students succeed in classrooms, a safe place when home isn't, help and support through unthinkable tragedies. It's all part of the United Way's mission, and it's a mission made stronger with support from Bridgestone Americas.

This year, Bridgestone Americas raised more than $2.3 million for the United Way of Greater Nashville, funding that will allow the organization to support non-profits and agencies providing essential services to communities across Middle Tennessee.

"Bridgestone really went above and beyond this year by raising more than $2.3 million to support the work of United Way and hosting the largest company-led golf tournament fundraiser in the United Way network," Brian Hassett, United Way of Greater Nashville CEO, said in a statement. "Thanks to their leadership in our community, and the generosity of their employees, we can continue to build brighter futures for our neighbors for many years to come."

Employees of Nashville-based Bridgestone raised $1.09 million for the United Way's annual campaign. This marks the 30th year that the tire and rubber products maker has partnered with the United Way. Since 2012, Bridgestone has contributed more than $10.4 million to the organization.

This year's $2.3 million donation also includes $1.3 million, raised during the fifth annual Bridgestone United Way Charitable Golf Tournament, hosted Oct. 19 at Hermitage Golf Club in Nashville. Since its inception, the golf tournament has generated $4.3 million in charitable donations.

"Bridgestone is committed to supporting the communities in which we live and operate," Paolo Ferrari, Bridgestone Americas president and CEO, said in a statement. "This year, our teammates and partners truly lived out our Bridgestone E8 commitment by generously giving back to those in need across Middle Tennessee. We are honored to continue our support of United Way of Greater Nashville."

Bridgestone's support of the community doesn't end with United Way donations. The company, through its Bridgestone Retail Operations, has been a consistent supporter of the Boys and Girls Clubs of America since 2015. In June, Bridgestone committed $450,000 to the association, partnering with Tight End University, which raised an additional $131,000 for the cause. Those funds supported transportation-related needs through the purchase of 51 new vans, and the maintenance and repairs to existing Club vehicles.
