BRISTOL TOWNSHIP, Pa.—Trinseo P.L.C. has resumed compounding operations, but has not yet resumed latex production following a March 24 chemical spill at a facility outside of Philadelphia.
"Right now, our full focus and attention is on an internal investigation of the incident," a Trinseo spokesperson told Rubber News March 30. "Separately, we have resumed our compounding operations as of March 28."
The Philadelphia Water Department ended its advisories March 29 for the March 24 spill of 8,100 gallons of acrylic latex emulsion product into Otter Creek, and ultimately the Delaware River.
The cause of the spill was "equipment failure" at Trinseo's Altuglas L.L.C. subsidiary in Bristol Township.
Water from the Baxter Drinking Water Treatment Plant is safe to drink and to use for cooking and bathing moving forward, the city of Philadelphia said March 29.
"Contaminants related to the Bristol Township discharge have never been found in PWD's water system at any point," the agency said.
