FORT WAYNE, Ind.—Chemical transportation customers now have access to a high-grade manway gasket "with superior sealing properties," as Trelleborg Sealing Solutions has released its new Tran-Secure rubber nozzle gasket for manway covers.
The Tran-Secure line from Trelleborg Sealing provides manway and flat gaskets, O-rings and valve repair kits, parts that are critical to the railcar and chemical transportation industries.
The new gaskets, comprised of FKM materials, provide "exceptional performance" for torqued tank cars manways transporting highly aggressive chemicals that can decay quickly.
"For decades, shippers, tank car manufacturers and railcar repair shops have relied on Trelleborg to provide high-performance seals and repair kits, material testing and root cause analysis support," said Thijs Menzel, global segment director of chemical and processing. "To fulfill their need for a single-source supplier for all their sealing requirements, we developed the new Tran-Secure elastomer manway nozzle gaskets.
"Our engineers designed these gaskets to stand up against aggressive chemicals and exhibit exceptional durability and longevity for transporting a broad range of chemicals and other liquid commodities."
The new gaskets offer a single-piece design with a chevron profile, which can help prevent non-accident releases of the chemicals being transported.
According to the Association of American Railroads, the manway is the leading cause of NARs, thus "it is critical that the industry has a readily available and reliable source for high-quality gaskets," Trelleborg said in an Oct. 17 release.
The new Tran-Secure gasket is part of a larger manway gasket portfolio, known as Turcon.
The glass-reinforced PTFE gaskets are thin and compressed, placed between the nozzle and manway cover designed to seal the entry and loading point into the tank car under a sufficient level of surface pressure.
Trelleborg Group, comprising Trelleborg Sealing Solutions, Trelleborg Medical Solutions and Trelleborg Industrial Solutions in varying geographic regions, saw about $2.23 billion in sales in 2023.
