PASO ROBLES, Calif.—Trelleborg Healthcare and Medical, a division within Trelleborg Sealing Solutions, now offers the BioPharmaPro series of components and materials for medical hose and tubing customers.

According to Trelleborg, the portfolio offers components comprising silicone and other elastomers, TPE and composites. The materials typically are manufactured into tubing, custom-molded components and processing columns, all the way up to full assemblies.

"Because single-use systems perform critical functions, we build strong partnerships with our customers to collaboratively develop innovative solutions to optimize outcomes," said Florance Veronelli, segment manager of Trelleborg Healthcare and Medical Europe. "When customers approach us with their ideas for innovative components and devices, we work with them at every step to turn these ideas into reality."

Trelleborg is able to leverage its expertise in material science and advanced manufacturing processes "to provide unsurpassed support to accelerate the business of our biopharmaceutical customers," Veronelli said.

Trelleborg uses extrusion, molding, composites and other processes to make the medical components and systems, which include full assemblies for filtration or chromatography equipment with advanced composite columns.

Solutions can be produced in ISO 7 and ISO 8 cleanrooms, "and all components meet cleanliness and biocompatibility requirements, including BioPhorum Operations Groups Extractables and Leachables standards for silicone tubing," the company said.

"In the post-Covid world, biopharmaceutical development is increasingly rapid and development times need to be short," said Mike Urbanski, business development manager at BioPharma. "But the market structure is also changing rapidly."

Urbanski noted that suppliers are shifting the focus away from product engineering to process engineering and drug development.

"Therefore reliable contract manufacturers and long-term partnerships are needed, as they can support with their capacity in development and manufacturing of mechanical systems," he said. "Trelleborg's BioPharmaPro adds value for customers through our one-stop shop for complete integrated solutions, from simple products to complex assemblies, allowing system suppliers to focus on drug development while outsourcing the product engineering and consolidating their supply chain."

Applications for the BioPharmaPro range include platinum-cured silicone tubing; braided hose for higher pressures; fittings for tubing and connectors; and vulcanized and non-vulcanized sheeting.

All components and systems are fully traceable.
