LYNDHURST, Ohio—Thanks to the expertise of the engineers at Ace Laboratories Inc. and Smithers, Thomas Swan and Co. Ltd. can put the proof behind its Pepton products.
According to Thomas Swan, customers report—and the testing companies validate—40-percent time and energy savings using Pepton 22, a chemical peptizer used in rubber compounding.
Testing by Smithers and Ace Laboratories demonstrated that 30 seconds of mastication with Pepton gives "measurable molecular weight reduction, as well as reducing energy consumption and significant process time savings," according to Thomas Swan.
"Our customers in all regions of the world have experienced the benefits of mix time and energy savings by formulating with our Pepton products for decades," said Jeff DeWerth, global managing director with Performance Polymer Solutions at Thomas Swan. "With the integration of our onsite anaerobic digestion renewable energy plant, the sustainability benefits of formulating with our Pepton grades have been increased even further."
Thomas Swan said its Pepton grades offer "exceptional sustainability and carbon footprint standards." Pepton products are made using more than 50-percent renewable energy, which the company expects to increase to more than 85 percent by the end of 2023.
Based in the United Kingdom, Thomas Swan will exhibit at the International Elastomer Conference Oct. 16-19 in Cleveland. Dave Abdallah, global key accounts director, will present a paper there entitled, "Pepton: Get More Done With Less Time And Energy."
