WEST ROME, Ga.—A start-up manufacturer of semi-finished natural and synthetic rubber compounds soon will be opening its doors at a 110,000-sq.-ft. leased facility in West Rome.
Swami Compounding L.L.C. was incorporated as a custom rubber compounder in 2021 and expects to be operating in full production with one line by November. The company is owned by a group of executives and investors, led by Managing Partner Harry Patel, who has majority ownership. Patel comes from a chemical engineering and rubber compounding background, having previously worked for global polymer compounding firm Hexpol. Patel also had his own industry resale business, but the COVID-19 pandemic motivated him to start a manufacturing-focused business.
Patel has raised $8 million in total investments to help start Swami Compounding. When searching for a location, Patel centered on the Southeastern U.S.
He said West Rome and surrounding communities provided a range of benefits such as power, water and sewer infrastructure, a strong labor force and an existing building. The company also received logistical and financial support from the Georgia Department of Economic Development and the Rome Floyd County Development Authority. Patel had considered locations between Chattanooga, Tennessee and Atlanta.
