AKRON—As a global provider of a range of testing, consulting and information services across an array of industries, Smithers now will enter the information security services realm.
The Northeast Ohio company launched the new department May 24, with its intent of delivering auditing certification services for NIST SP 800-171 and the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification, as well as other offerings.
Under the auspices of Smithers Quality Assessments Division, the department will bring more than 25 years of third-party auditing experience to the requirements of the CMMC program, offering trained assessments for suppliers to the U.S. Department of Defense, as well as businesses looking to become suppliers of secure data to the DoD and other agencies.
"Information security threats continue to escalate as a major risk to organizations across all types of industries," said Jeanette Preston, president of Smithers Quality Assessments Division. "As a matter of business continuity, many firms are going to be mandated to ensure that critical data is protected as a requirement to do business with defense, governmental agencies and with highly-regulated industries."
Aaron Troschinetz, general manager for Smithers Quality Assessments Division in North America, will head the new department.
"During audits, we observe that clients have a real need for these services," Troschinetz said. "By offering information security along with our current auditing and certification services companies don't need multiple vendors.
"Smithers is now equipped to be their full-service, trusted partner."
