RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif.—The organizers of the annual SEMA Show in Las Vegas will require those attending the 2020 event, scheduled for Nov. 3-6, to wear face masks or face shields to gain entry to the exhibit halls.
In addition, traffic flow within the exhibit halls will be restricted to one-way aisles, "where possible," according to the Specialty Equipment Market Association, the show's organizer.
The face mask/shield requirement is in line with regulations adopted recently by the state of Nevada for all public spaces in the state, according to Tom Gattuso, vice president of events for SEMA.
Other safety measures SEMA and the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC) said will be observed:
- Designated entrance and exit areas to control and screen visitors with discrete daily health queries, incorporating non-invasive thermal cameras, etc.;
- Hand-sanitizing stations every 200 feet throughout the exhibit halls and fair grounds; and
- Enhanced physical cleaning with hourly sanitizing of high-traffic areas throughout the exhibit hall's floor and common areas, including doorways, elevators and escalators.
SEMA said it's expecting 1,800 companies to be exhibiting at the 2020 SEMA Show. It did not give an expectation for attendance.
The trade group also said it's collaborating with the LVCC to pursue certification for safety measures aimed at outbreak prevention through actions, such as sanitizing the facility nightly as well as working with hotel partners, state and city officials in Las Vegas to ensure high safety standards and government compliance for the November event.
