BARBERTON, Ohio—NovationSi, the manufacturing subsidiary for California-based R.D. Abbott Co. Inc., will supply the colorant for a cell demonstration by Arburg GmbH at the upcoming MD&M West Show in Anaheim, Calif.
The Feb. 4-6 expo and conference is one of the largest for medical device manufacturers, tool and die makers, and raw material providers in the U.S.
The collaboration for the high consistency rubber injection molding cell also will feature contributions from ACH Solution GmbH, a Fischlham, Austria, firm that designed and produced the four-cavity mold featuring a mechanical valve gate balancing system.
According to R.D. Abbott, Germany-based Arburg will mold a "Tighty" cable tie made of HCR for medical devices during sterilization in its Allrounder 470 A at the show.
The cycle time will be 45 seconds, and the part weight is 3.45 grams.
NovationSi's NovaSperse color dispersion will match Arburg's teal logo, a "highly visible feature of the German manufacturer's injection molding machines," R.D. Abbott said.
ACH Solution will provide its Turnmix high-temperature vulcanized dosing system for continuous material feed.
Arburg's Multilift Select 6 linear robot system and ACH Solution's 3D-printed end-of-arm tool will conduct the handling tasks.
Arburg, of Lossburg, Germany, will be at booth No. 4229 of Hall B in Anaheim at MD&M West.
MD&M West features plastics and polymers, medical devices, automation and robotics, and design and manufacturing firms.
NovationSi offers three-day turnaround for most silicone dispersions and provides NovaSperse Healthcare dispersions, which are free of heavy metals, phthalates and bisphenol A and are tested to meet USP Class VI standards.
"This collaboration with Arburg and ACH Solution highlights R.D. Abbott and NovationSi's unwavering commitment to supporting the rubber industry by working with industry-leading supplier partners and delivering exceptional technical expertise," R.D. Abbott said in a news release. "This dedication is further exemplified through the hands-on support of Craig Lustek."
Lustek is R.D. Abbott's LSR application and business development engineer.
Along with application engineers and technicians from Arburg and ACH Solution, Lustek helped set up the cell during a recent trial and troubleshooting.
Lustek also will assist with set-up and tear-down at the conference on behalf of R.D. Abbott and NovationSi.
