WASHINGTON—Too often, items and ideas enter their various markets without proper fanfare or recognition for their innovation.
Now is the time to nominate those unique products, processes and ideas in the polyurethanes market for their ground-breaking thought and exceptional practices, as applications for the Polyurethane Innovation Award are being accepted through June 15.
The award, sponsored by the Center for the Polyurethanes Industry of the American Chemistry Council, recognizes companies and individuals who bring these products, processes and ideas to the forefront.
"Bringing innovative products and technologies to market is no easy feat, as the journey often takes years of thought, determination and perseverance," Lee Salamone, senior director of CPI, said in a news release. "Then, there are those who go above and beyond to raise the bar, bringing about significant transformation to change the modern world and our everyday lives with improvements to polyurethane chemistry, products or practices."
Carbon Inc. was selected as the 2019 Polyurethane Innovation Award winner, honored for its Digital Light Synthesis (DLS) technology used in the Riddell SpeedFlex Precision Diamond Football Helmet Liner. Using data from 5 million head impacts, the company designed the liner to give athletes maximum protection, according to CPI.
Entries for the 2020 award cannot have been previously submitted and must have been developed between June 16, 2018, and June 15, 2020, according to CPI. The winner will be announced at the Polyurethanes Technical Conference in October. Eligible items include products, initiatives, training or education programs, or processes and processing equipment that have entered the market for the first time.

"CPI looks forward to recognizing today's polyurethane industry pioneers whose innovations will create a more sustainable tomorrow," Salamone said.
