NOKIA, Finland—Nokian Tyres P.L.C. is adapting production at its passenger car tire factory in Finland in response to ongoing "political strikes" affecting ports and transportation in the country.
The strikes have led to Nokian's inventories of tires filling up, as the company is unable to deliver tires to its customers, the tire maker said in a statement March 22.
Nokian said it completed change negotiations with 350 production employees at the Finland tire plant. Based on current information, it said, the production changes will last for at least two weeks.
Following these talks, "production employees can be laid off due to financial and production related reasons for a maximum period of 90 days," Nokian said, noting employees will be laid off from March 26 – April 9.
Production of heavy tires, it added, will continue as normal.
