WEST CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa.—ASTM International has issued Standard D8300, designed to provide guidance to tire and rubber product manufacturers that use precipitated silica as a filler.
Developed by ASTM Committee D11 on rubber and rubber-like materials, D8300 provides a test method to determine the level of electrical conductivity in an aqueous suspension of silica.
"This test method is used to determine the electrical conductivity of silica and the electrical conductivity is suitable for characterizing rubber-grade silica," ASTM said in its description of the test method.
Copies of the test method are available from ASTM in hard copy or PDF format for $44 each. To order a copy, visit astm.org.
