SANTA ANA, Calif.—The Mustang Cup, a new six-round race series sanctioned by the United States Auto Club (USAC), has named Yokohama Tire as its official tire sponsor as of Feb. 12.
Each Mustang Dark Horse R participating in the newly-sanctioned single-make racing series will be fitted with Yokohama's Advan-brand A005 slicks, or A006 wet racing tires, the cup series said. The A005 has been specially built for racing, according to Patricia Wall, Yokohama's motorsports senior manager, boasting "impressively fast lap times and predictable handling."
"Yokohama is proud to be the exclusive spec tire and supplier for the inaugural Mustang Cup season," Andrew Briggs, Yokohama Tire's vice president of marketing and product management said. "This new partnership with Ford Performance highlights our shared commitment to motorsports excellence. It's exciting to see how our Advan A005s enhance the performance and handling of the extraordinary Mustang Dark Horse R."
Kevin Miller, president and CEO of USAC, said that the organization is excited to continue its partnership with Yokohama.
Yokohama Tire sports a "remarkable team of engineers" according to Kevin Groot, Ford Performance Motorsports sports car programs manager. The North American arm of the Hiratsuka, Japan-based company also has hands-on experience with an extensive list of motorsport organizations throughout North America, including the Championship Off-Road Series, SCORE and the TrophyLite Series.
"Yokohama has consistently delivered exceptional performance, reliability and innovation, which are critical to the competitive edge and safety of our drivers," Miller said. "Their commitment to excellence aligns perfectly with the spirit of the Mustang Cup, and we look forward to building on this collaboration as we embark on this exciting new chapter."
The 2025 Mustang Cup will take place over a series of six races from April to November, the USAC said.
