LOS ANGELES—The Los Angeles Rubber Group, commonly known as TLARGI, is heading into cyberspace with its popular Basic Rubber Technology course.
Normally a 20-week, in-classroom course over two semesters, the class is being taught online due to the coronavirus pandemic over a 15-week period, set to begin Aug. 27 and conclude Dec. 17. The course will meet online every Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. PST.
"TLARGI will be offering this exceptional training in web format for 2020," the group said, adding it is open to everyone at a $380 per person rate, regardless of membership in rubber group. The rate is approximately 20 percent less than the in-person course cost, the group said.
The course will focus on designing with rubber; formulating with rubber; compounding with rubber; fabricating with rubber; mold design and manufacturing with rubber (a new course to be taught by Rick Finnie of M.R. Mold and Engineering Corp.); and testing with rubber.
Other topics to be covered include: rubber industry overview and history; silicone rubber; rubber-to-substrate bonding; recycling; latex; foam/sponge; mold building; and rubber test methods.
