Kraiburg develops new TPE for drinking water applications

WALDKRAIBURG, Germany—Kraiburg TPE has developed a new thermoplastic elastomer for a wide range of drinking water applications, the company has recently announced.

The product, labelled TF8ONG-NTRL, carries NSF/ANSI 61-compliance exclusively for the Asia Pacific market, Kraiburg TPE said in a Dec. 6 release.

Supplied in 80 Shore A with 0.95g/cm density, the elastomer is said to offer suitable durability and flexibility in uses such as tube and hose, pipe fittings, couplings, flexible pipe fitting and plumbing manifolds.

The material is stated to meet the NSF/ANSI 61 testing standard under section 4 with cold water (23°C) and domestic hot water applications (60°C).

The TPE also meets the low-odor, flavor and total organic compound (TOC) testing standards according to KTW under hot water application, added Kraiburg TPE.

Free of curing/crosslinking chemicals, the product is further stated to meet EU No. 10/2011 Food Contact Plastics and U.S. FDA CFR 21 (raw material conformity) quality system regulations.

The new compound is available in natural color and can be processed via injection molding or extrusion, concluded Kraiburg TPE.
