Inoac Exterior Systems L.L.C. is closing its Fremont, Ohio, plant by the end of the third quarter of 2025.
"After careful consideration, and discussions with our customers, we have made the difficult decision to consolidate our footprint in North America by relocating all manufacturing activities from our Fremont, Ohio plant to our facilities in Livingston, Tenn., and Toronto," Kevin Kinsey, vice president of purchasing and supply chain at Inoac, told suppliers in a memo acquired by Plastics News.
Inoac notified employees at the plant that "next year will be their last," according to a report by WTVG 13 Action News in Toledo, Ohio.
An employee told WTVG that about 300 to 400 employees will be affected by the closure and that the company "had … been losing upwards of $50 million."
"So we knew there was a slowdown, we expected maybe a layoff or maybe go down a shift or two but not to close the doors," the employee said.
"This transition is part of a broader strategy to optimize our operations, improve efficiency and better serve our customers with a laser focus on quality, cost and delivery," Kinsey said in the memo. "We are committed to a smooth transition, working closely with our customers to align on key milestones and ensure uninterrupted supply."
Inoac Exterior Systems did not respond to multiple requests for comment by Plastics News.
The former joint venture between Inoac and ABC Technologies was fully acquired by Inoac USA Inc. in February 2023.
The company plans to continue processing all current orders as planned, advance some orders "to build a bank of parts to cover production while any tools and equipment are being moved," the memo said.
