THE WOODLANDS, Texas—Huntsman Building Solutions has launched a new assembly and continuous insulation system that will allow construction to take place whatever the weather.
The Texas-based company's new D-Max Wall assembly allows the installation of spray polyurethan foam (SPF) from the interior while also managing thermal bridging and the studs and structure, according to Huntsman.
The assembly uses the company's Heatlock HFO closed cell SPF, which acts as insulation, an air barrier and a vapor barrier, the company said, noting the wall assembly allows construction to take place despite inclement weather.
The foam is installed from the interior and cuts the thermal bridge of the studs by filling the gap between the exterior sheathing panel or gypsum and the studs. This is variable depending on the target insulation values and is created with Z-bars that are installed directly on the exterior face of the studs before the sheathing is installed, according to Huntsman. The spacing and size of the Z-bars also vary, depending on the building and cladding type.
Huntsman said the assembly removes the need for scaffolding or hydraulic elevators during installation.
"Among D-Max Wall's biggest benefits is the spray foam insulation may be installed regardless of temperature or wind variables and as the walls are built, saving valuable time and maximizing speed to completion," said Doug Brady, the company's vice president of global innovation and product management.
"The assembly also provides significant heating savings during winter construction activity."
