INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.—The Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) has awarded Hoosier Racing Tire Corp. the exclusive tire partnership contract for its World and European Rallycross Championships.
The contract, disclosed at the Performance Racing Industry (PRI) Show in Indianapolis in early December, covers the 2024-26 seasons. Continental A.G. subsidiary Hoosier replaces Goodyear's Cooper Tire business as the series' designated tire supplier.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
"This is the right step forward for us to continue the growth of our brand internationally," Joerg Burfien, president and CEO of Hoosier Racing Tire, said. "It is a great opportunity allowing us to showcase our product performance."
Martin Heckers, head of Hoosier Racing Tire Europe, added: "This underlines our commitment to grow our rally and rallycross product portfolio globally."
Hoosier takes over the race-tire supply contract at a critical time. The 2024 Rallycross Championship season will be a "battle of technologies," Hoosier said, pitting electric-powered (EV) cars alongside internal combustion (ICE) cars on equal terms.
FIA Rally Director Andrew Wheatley added: "We are very impressed with Hoosier's product performance and are looking forward to launching this partnership with the start of the 2024 season."
Cooper Tire was the series' designated tire supplier from 2014-23 and had agreed in 2022 to supply the RX1 EV-based companion series.
Rallycross is a form of circuit racing on a track with mixed surfaces, usually asphalt and gravel or sealed/unsealed surfaces. The FIA World Rallycross series traditionally have taken place predominantly in Europe. The 2024 season schedule has not yet been announced.
