Goodyear renews NASCAR Cup race sponsorship

DARLINGTON, S.C.—Goodyear is renewing its sponsorship of the NASCAR Goodyear 400, to be held May 8 at Darlington Raceway, one of the NASCAR Cup Series oldest tracks.

The race, NASCAR's official Throwback Weekend Cup Series race for 2022, will feature Goodyear Eagle tires with a vintage sidewall design, last used during the 1980-92 Cup Series race season.

The throwback tires features spray-painted logo designs of the past, paying tribute to the first time Goodyear featured "Eagle" on its race tires' sidewalls in NASCAR.

Goodyear has been affiliated with the NASCAR circuit since 1954.

"From the paint schemes to the historic track and throwback tire design, few races capture NASCAR's tradition like the Goodyear 400," Kerry Tharp, president of Darlington Raceway. said. "As NASCAR's longest-running continuous partner, Goodyear is uniquely woven into the fabric of the sport and is an ideal partner for the Official Throwback Weekend of NASCAR at Darlington Raceway."

The tire design will be used at all three national series races—Dead On Tools 200 on May 6; the Mahindra ROXOR 200 on May 7; and the Goodyear 400 on May 8—during the Official Throwback Weekend of NASCAR.

On fan will win a set of Goodyear Eagle race tires from the winning driver's stock car. To register for the Bring Home the Win Sweepstakes, fans must visit Goodyear400Sweepstakes.com and complete the online entry form.

Once the form is submitted, fans automatically will be entered for a chance to win one of the limited-edition tires, used by the winner of the Goodyear 400. No purchase is necessary to enter. The contest ends on May 9.

The race will begin at 3:30 p.m. and be televised on FS1 and Motor Racing Network, where Goodyear will provide aerial coverage of the race.

Whiteville, N.C.-based Blacks Tire Service (BTS), the distribution arm of Black's Tire, will sponsor the No. 38 Ford Mustang in the Goodyear 400. Rookie driver Todd Gilliland, son of David Gilliland, will drive the BTS car.

The Benton family, which operates BTS, has had a longtime relationship with the Gillilands. BTS expects between 700 and 800 employees and customers to attend the race.
