BRUSSELS—Two Goodyear employees based at the tire maker's Luxembourg technical center died Aug. 9 in a crash during tire testing at the Nurburgring race track in central Germany.
The cause of the crash is still being investigated.
"We are deeply saddened that two Luxembourg-based Goodyear associates passed away on August 9 following a vehicle incident that occurred at a test track in Germany," Goodyear said in a statement. "Our immediate concern is for our associates' family and friends, as well as their co-workers in Luxembourg."
Goodyear said it is assisting local authorities with investigations into the causes of the incident.
The pair were driving a recent-vintage Porsche. Multiple media reports from Europe indicate the incident was a single-car crash, during which the car rolled several times.
Goodyear has not yet identified the deceased.
The 12.9-mile, 73-turn Nurburgring North Course (Nordschleife) is used extensively by vehicle and tire makers alike for performance and endurance testing.
In 2021, Goodyear Motorsports secured naming rights at two sections of the track's 3.2-mile Grand Prix course.
