DENVER—Gates Corp. has introduced a new thermoplastic polyurethane parabolic belt in two separate profiles for industrial belting applications.
The supplier of fluid power and power transmission products said the 8mm and 14mm sizes of the Gates Parabolic Pitch set belts are "stronger, more durable, quieter, safer to operate and require less maintenance" than alternative belts.
"At Gates, we're continually in search of market opportunities where our materials science expertise and drive to innovate can create added value for our customers," said Scott Manley, general manager for Gates TPU products. "The new GPP belts are the latest examples of our efforts."
According to Gates, the new belts comprise reinforced steel and work in coordination with Timken Co. sprockets. They come with nylon fabric on the tooth sides, allowing for greater abrasion-resistance, and they can function in environments of between -30ºC and 50ºC.
The belts are intended for use in material handling, vertical lift, door opening and automation. The belts are available in North America and the European, Middle East and Africa region.
"In addition to expanding our TPU product range, GPP is another example of our commitment to replace legacy technologies with engineered belt solutions that are more efficient, lighter, cleaner, safer and quieter to operate than traditional roller chains, and last up to five times longer than steel cables," Manley said.
