WEINHEIM, Germany—Functional reliability is critical to those with Type 1 diabetes.
To meet this need, Freudenberg Sealing Technologies has entered a purchase agreement for insulin pump rod seals with Swiss medical technology firm Ypsomed.
"When the project started, Ypsomed expected a much lower number of seals per year," said Peter Rohr, sales engineer at Freudenberg Sealing Technologies. "We have now concluded a two-year purchase contract with a much higher order quantity."
This boost in order volume for rod seals for portable insulin pumps is intended to boost reliability in this important feature of a pump sealing mechanism.
"This successful sales performance underlines the high expertise of Freudenberg Sealing Technologies in the medical technology field," the company said in a Jan. 31 release.
Freudenberg Sealing began partnering with Ypsomed in 2012, a company with more than three decades of experience in designing medical components related to diabetes.
The challenge in this case was to achieve high permeability with minimal friction, according to Freudenberg.
