OSLO, Norway—SEAL Awards has recognized Norwegian supplier Elkem Silicones with two honors in its 2025 Business Sustainability Awards.
Elkem said that the two-part recognition "underscores our comprehensive approach to our ESG strategy, from executing our climate roadmap to developing silicone solutions supporting circularity."
SEAL's Environmental Initiative Award "honors specific environmental and sustainability initiatives," the organization said.
Elkem received this year's award thanks to its Industrial Symbiosis for Silicones initiative, which recycles hydrochloric acid waste into raw materials.
"This approach not only reduces waste and CO2 emissions but aligns with our ambition to develop and scale up new technologies and processes to maximize raw material value, starting with, but not limited to, our in-house industrial waste," the company said.
Elkem Silicones also earned the Sustainable Product Award for its Silcolapse-brand Easy 10 product, company officials said. The result of "an intensive R&D program," the silicone has shown up to a 50-percent decrease in antifoam usage.
Pierre Beccat, Elkem's research and technology director for EMEA and Americas, called the honor a "testament" to Elkem's continued push to circularity. The company hopes to further aid the rubber and silicone industries into the green transition in years to come, it said.
"These recognitions are particularly meaningful as they highlight our holistic approach to transforming our business model and investing in strategic projects that drive the circular economy in the silicones industry," Beccat said. "By excelling in both environmental initiatives and sustainable product development, we demonstrate that sustainability is at the core of our operations, influencing every aspect of our business."
