BRAMPTON, Ontario—Zochem L.L.C. has entered rarefied air in the sustainability space, earning a 95th percentile overall score in achieving the Gold Medal from EcoVadis.
The award was issued July 29, according to Zochem. EcoVadis is the largest sustainability ratings provider in the world.
In tribute to Zochem's achievement, EcoVadis will plant a tree through its partnership with One Tree Planted, a non-profit organization "dedicated to restoring forests, creating habitat for biodiversity and making a positive social impact around the world."
"We are honored to be recognized by EcoVadis and to contribute to global reforestation efforts," said Mohit Sharma, president and CEO of Zochem. "This award motivates our (team) to continue our journey toward greater sustainability and to set higher standards for ourselves and our industry."
Zochem now is among the top 5 percent of companies evaluated by EcoVadis, which has analyzed more than 125,000 international companies.
Assisting Zochem in elevating from silver to gold was the firm's compliance with Bill S-211, an act to fight against forced labor and child labor in supply chains.
In addition, Zochem uses innovative muffle furnace technology in its French process zinc oxide, leading to zero waste and climate change mitigation.
EcoVadis' ratings are based on principles of the United Nations Global Compact, the Global Reporting Initiative, ISO 2600 and the International Labour Organization.
Zochem, with manufacturing operations in Brampton and Dickson, Tenn., supplies zinc oxide to the tire, rubber, chemical, electronics, agricultural, plastics, USP/pharma, ceramics and other markets.
