Versalis launches business development plan

ROME—Versalis S.p.A. has outlined its business development program for the next three years in a presentation to representatives of national and local trade union, the Italian polymer group reported July 6.

Under its 2022-25 industrial plan, Versalis said it aims to build on investments of $1.12 billion over the last four years, while focusing on "specialization, circularity, chemistry from renewable sources and efficiency."

In terms of specialization of its portfolio, the company said this is being driven by the development of markets and products for energy transition and sustainable mobility.

Regarding circularity, Versalis highlighted commitments to mechanical and chemical recycling of plastic waste as well as developments in the field of renewable chemistry.

At its Brindisi and Priolo-Ragusa plants in Italy, the company aims to integrate the cracking plants with technology for the chemical recycling of plastic waste—supported by a new 6,000-metric-ton demo plant in Mantua.

In the rubber sector, Versalis is to introduce new grades of EPDM from its plant in Ferrara and is finalizing a project in Ravenna to increase production of high-added-value elastomers for the tire and automotive industries.

Versalis added that it is continuing to develop products with recycled raw material content and was participating in a joint decarbonization project in the Ravenna and Ferrara districts with industrial partners.
