HONG KONG—The organizer of Chinaplas, the world's largest annual plastics trade fair, said April 21 it is canceling this year's show and rescheduling for 2023, citing stricter coronavirus pandemic control measures in China.
Hong Kong-based Adsale Exhibition Services Ltd. said the next Chinaplas will be held April 17-20, 2023, in Shenzhen, China.
This year's show had originally been planned for Shanghai's National Exhibition and Convention Center April 25-28, but Adsale said April 21 that "further tightening of pandemic control measures in Shanghai and other provinces of China" pushed it to reschedule to next year.
The company had first announced in March that it was postponing the 2022 show but did not specify when the new date would be.
Adsale said it made the decision to cancel this year's fair "after taking into consideration the availability of National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai, and after consulting with the responsible governmental departments as well as related parties."
The show rotates annually between Shanghai and Shenzhen. The fair has over 150,000 attendees and several thousand exhibiting companies, making it the largest yearly plastics show in the world.
Shanghai and other Chinese cities have been in lockdown conditions as the country tries to contain the spread of the omicron coronavirus variant.
In the early days of the coronavirus pandemic, Adsale canceled the 2020 show in Shanghai, but then successfully held its 2021 show in April of that year, in Shenzhen.
