BEIJING—China's Commerce Ministry (Mofcom) has initiated investigations into the dumping of halogenated butyl rubber imported from Canada, Japan and India.
The probe follows a petition by Zhejiang Cenway New Materials Co., which called for a probe on behalf of the local industry earlier in July, Mofcom said in a Sept. 14 statement.
The antidumping investigation period will be Jan. 1–Dec. 31, 2023, and the injury period will cover Jan.1, 2021, to Dec. 31, 2023, the Chinese authority announced.
Interested parties can take part in the investigation within 20 days of the announcement.
Mofcom said it expects to conclude the probe in six months, but the period is subject to extension.
The move follows a recent decision by Mofcom to extend a five-year tariff on halogenated butyl rubber imports from the U.S., European Union, United Kingdom and Singapore in August.
Those affected by that decision include ExxonMobil and Arlanxeo, among other suppliers, with rates varying from 23.1 percent to 75.5 percent.
Halogenated butyl rubber is widely used in applications including tire inner liners, heat-resistant hose, conveyor belts, pharmaceutical stoppers, shockproof pads, adhesives and sealing products.
