MELKSHAM, U.K.—Avon Protection P.L.C. is consolidating its operations in the U.S. with the closure of its Irvine, Calif., manufacturing unit.
In a Jan. 26 Jan trading update, the United Kingdom-based protection gear maker said it had informed employees of the head protection manufacturing plant about the planned closure, to be completed by summer 2025.
Manufacture of head protection products will be transferred from Irvine to other production sites, Avon said. It did not give further details.
Avon said the closure will "significantly improve competitiveness and financial performance over the medium term. The group expects to see benefits from the move in its financial year 2026, which will start Oct. 1, 2025.
Avon acquired the Irvine plant in 2020 following the $91 million purchase of 3M's ballistic-protection business.
The facility in Irvine was the business' principal manufacturing and final-assembly unit for a number of products, including ballistic helmets and body armor plates.
