ASTM, IRAM establish partnership

W. CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa.—ASTM International, a standards organization that implements consensus technical benchmarks for a variety of industries, has reached an agreement with El Instituto Argentino de Normalizacion y Certificacion, or IRAM.

The memorandum of understanding between the two organizations was reached April 28. Much like ASTM in the U.S., IRAM develops consensus standards in Argentina.

"On behalf of ASTM International, I am honored and pleased to participate in this virtual ceremony for the signing of a memorandum of understanding and business annex between ASTM and IRAM," said Teresa Cendrowska, vice president, global cooperation for ASTM. "The chance to foster technology transfer, promote safety and support economic growth is a great opportunity for all of us.

"It is yet another step in ASTM International's work in Latin America, which began in earnest when ASTM signed its very first (memorandum of understanding) with ICONTEC in Colombia in 2001."

The agreement was signed by Stuart Radcliffe, vice president, sales and marketing, and Cendrowska on ASTM International's side; and by Nicolas Elicabe, director general for IRAM, for Argentina.

"We feel very proud that with this ... we will expand our cooperation, learn about each other and encourage Argentine experts to engage with ASTM standardization activities," Elicabe said.

The two sides said the agreement will increase knowledge and communication; invite Argentinian stakeholder participation for best practices; encourage collaboration; and promote cooperation for professors and students in both countries.
