SAN DIEGO—Ansell Ltd. is putting a heavy focus on sustainability in the U.S. with a new program aimed at the American scientific community.
On Dec. 3, the company held its first "Scientists for Sustainability" event at San Diego's Birch Aquarium. The evening was sponsored by Ansell's RightCycle-brand program, which helps customers recycle used, non-hazardous Kimtech and KleenGuard-brand personal protection equipment.
Through this initiative, Ansell hopes to "inspire the scientific community to adopt more sustainable choices" in the U.S. and beyond, the company said. The company hopes to achieve net zero emission status throughout its operation by 2040, and touted its progress on the sustainability front in its 2024 annual meeting.
The Dec. 3 pilot event could help Ansell build and expand on further sustainability-focused events.
" 'Scientists for Sustainability' aims to build a network of scientists focused on sustainable practices, with particular focus on reducing PPE waste that goes to landfill," the company said.
In total, the event's attendees helped raise $7,250 for San Diego Coastkeeper through the RightCycle program.
The pilot event also included guest speakers, including representatives from My Green Lab and San Diego Coastkeeper, as well as a private aquarium tour and an education fair about the impact of PPE and other plastic waste on ocean ecosystems.
