PITTSBURGH—Aerospace grade silicones were in focus for Specialty Silicone Products at Silicone Expo USA.
The materials are resistant to fuels and oils, a performance that's needed in aerospace uses, sales and marketing manager Kevin Wickert said Sept. 11 at the event in Pittsburgh. Ballston Spa, N.Y.-based SSP introduced the materials last year and demand for them is growing, he added.
SSP's aerospace silicones are fully tested and certified and can be made in small amounts for high-value, low-volume niche applications, business development manager Dominic Testo said.
The firm also recently has seen increased demand for conductive elastomeric silicones used in EMI shielding for electronic and defense applications, such as military drones, Testo added. SSP also remains focused on R&D with its five-person staff.
SSP's product line includes EMI/RFI shielding silicones and FDA-compliant USP Class VI silicones in sheets, rolls and moldable compounds. The firm also makes EMI conductive O-rings, EMI extrusions, molded and die-cut EMI gaskets and chromatography products.
SSP was founded in 1989 and was part of GE Silicones before being acquired by Heico Corp. in 2018. The firm employs 90 at a 54,000-sq.-ft. location.
