DENVER—Gates Corp., a supplier of hydraulic and power transmission parts, is continuing its transition toward electric vehicles with its new ThermalPro Electric Water Pump platform.
The application is intended for use on hybrid and battery-powered electric vehicles, in the automotive, light commercial and heavy duty categories.
"At Gates, we've been anticipating and investing in the exciting new market opportunity presented by the global shift to electrified transportation," said Tom Pitstick, chief marketing officer and senior vice president of strategic planning for Gates. "Whether it's building out our extensive catalog of products for over 1,500 applications across 30 electric vehicle models, or developing advanced thermal management technologies to enable improved performance and efficiency of these highly complex systems, we are dedicated to maintaining our leadership position in both aftermarket and OEM applications."
The development of the pump platform incorporates electronics, software, motor design and computational fluid dynamics, allowing it to cover a wide variety of applications, from 100 watts to 3 kilowatts.
The outlay of the pump is such that it isolates electronics from exposure to coolant fluids and can improve motor efficiency, the latter a significant advantage as water pumps are a large consumer of battery life in EVs.
"The energy efficiency, performance and reliability of our next-generation ThermalPro electric water pumps are well suited for the demanding thermal management requirements of electrified vehicles and fully support our vision to provide the best solutions for our customers," Pitstick said.
The new offering is being offered for both OEM and aftermarket customers.
