Gates hoses, CoolIT Systems work to cool down data centers

DENVER—Gates Corp. is expanding its portfolio of computer data center cooling solutions with industry partner, CoolIT Systems.

Gates manufactures power transmission and fluid power components for a range of industries, and the new offering represents a "collaboration and entry" into a "fast-growing and evolving market."

"Data center cooling is a natural market extension for Gates," said Tom Pitstick, president of global strategy for Gates. "The Gates brand is synonymous with quality and reliability, which is table stakes for data center operations.

"We have more than 100 years of experience in thermal management applications and that experience has positioned us well to participate in a wide range of applications, from the electrification of vehicles to high-power industrial applications such as data center cooling."

CoolIT Systems, essentially scalable liquid cooling technology, is designed for use in conjunction with high-performance computing, which can generate great amounts of heat.

"We are seeing unprecedented demand for liquid cooling thanks to the mainstream utilization of generative AI," said Hamid Rafiei, senior vice president of global operations of CoolIT Systems. "Our partnership with Gates leverages their strong technical capabilities and secures the capacity for key components that are integral in our data center product portfolio. We anticipate being well equipped to address the surging AI market demand with the Gates support."

According to Gates, the firms will work to "tighten the supply chain" between Gates' North American operations and CoolIT's Calgary, Alberta, manufacturing hub.

Gates will leverage its technical expertise and overall capacity in materials science, fluid conveyance and thermal management in the partnership, Pitstick said.

Gates works in a diverse range of applications across a wide variety of end markets, including industrial on-highway, industrial off-highway, mobility and recreation, automotive, energy and resources, as well as diversified industrial.
