PITTSBURGH—The United Steelworkers union is endorsing Joe Biden for president.
"Vice President Biden has long been a friend of workers and our union," USW International President Thomas Conway said in a statement. "The USW is proud to stand with him now."
The union said the move came after candidates were sent a detailed questionnaire last fall seeking their views on "key issues affecting working people." Biden, the union said, addressed all the issues that mattered to its members.
President Trump did not return the questionnaire, the union said.
"We came to this endorsement through listening," Conway said in a statement. "We listened to our members when they told us that their top issues were affordable health care and prescription drugs, retirement security, and labor laws that protect working people."
The USW includes 850,000 members in a variety of industries, including tires, rubber, chemicals and automotive supply.
