WASHINGTON—The International Trade Commission (ITC) has set a hearing for Nov. 7 at its offices in Washington to look into the United Steelworkers (USW) union's antidumping petition on truck and bus tires from Thailand.
Providing all goes to plan, the agency could issue a preliminary determination as early as Dec. 1, according to a schedule published by the ITC.
Those wishing to comment on the matter have until Nov. 3 to register with the ITC.
According to the schedule, ITC staff are to report the agency's findings to the ITC commissioners no later than Nov. 27. The commissioners are schedule to vote on Nov. 30 with the results made public Dec. 1.
The USW is seeking antidumping margins as high as 47.8 percent on truck/bus tires imported from Thailand.
According to the USW, such imports—fueled by Chinese investments in production capacities in Thailand—have more than doubled in the past three years. The high level of Thai imports undercut domestic producers and imperil U.S. jobs, the USW said.
The USW sought and obtained antidumping and countervailing duties in 2019 on truck/bus tire imports from China, an action that resulted in a deep drop in those imports in 2020-2022.
