TOKYO—Shin-Etsu's silicones business has reported 17.9 percent year-on-year increases in first quarter earnings at $149 million.
Segment net sales for the three months to end of June rose 1.3 percent to $528 million, Shin-Etsu reported July 24.
Strong sales in functional products helped offset a price decline in general purpose products, the Japanese materials supplier added, without giving further details.
The company also reported impairment loss of $28.1 million due to preventive maintenance conducted within its silicones operations in Thailand in February.
