NEWMARKET, Ontario—After two straight quarters with record sales, AirBoss of America Corp. reported a 6.7-percent decrease in net sales for the second quarter of this year, compared to the same quarter in 2021.
Net sales for the second quarter 2022 decreased to $110.5 million, against the $118.4 million in net sales recorded in the second quarter of 2021.
The decrease for the quarter stemmed from the completed contract with U.S. Health and Human Services for delivery of Powered Air-Purifying Respirators and nitrile gloves within the AirBoss Defense Group segment, the largest contract ever recorded at AirBoss, the company said in its quarterly financial report released Aug. 4.
While ADG and engineered solutions were down in the second quarter of this year, the company's rubber solutions segment helped offset those losses with a 51.6-percent jump in sales in the first six months of 2022, against comparable year-to-date sales in 2021.
"The rubber solutions segment continued to optimize production and capitalize on elevated demand in Q2 2022, and this led to significant growth over the corresponding period in 2021," Chris Bitsakakis, president and COO of AirBoss, said in a statement.
New, specialized products and capabilities have been developed organically and via acquisitions within this segment, giving rubber solutions an expanded portfolio of compounds and better access to end markets.
More opportunities will present themselves moving forward with rubber solutions, Bitsakakis said.
