GUANGZHOU, China—Wanli Tire Co. plans to increase production capacity for semi-steel radial tires at its facility in Guangzhou City by 25 percent.
The group submitted an environmental impact assessment report to local authorities for the $152 million project, the company said in an Oct. 25 statement.
Dubbed a "phase III" development plan, the project aims to add an annual capacity of 6 million units of radial passenger car tires at the recently upgraded factory.
Once completed, the unit will have a total annual production capacity of 30 million units of semi-steel passenger car tires, according to Wanli.
Within its draft proposal, Wanli said it will have additional space for a further capacity expansion, on a similar scale, in the future.
Wanli carried out an $85 million upgrade project at the Guangzhou City tire facility last year to enhance the site's production capacity by 60 percent.
The initiative involved upgrading all production lines and removing outdated equipment at the site: increasing production capacity from 15 million to 24 million units per year.
