"The new Long Thanh facility is a key part of our strategy to increase our manufacturing footprint in Asia and expand our capabilities and product offerings in the region," Gordon Micallef, Trelleborg Sealing Solutions operations business unit president, said in a statement.
"The new facility focuses on servicing automotive and industrial markets for both the fast-growing market in Vietnam and the wider Asian region, as well as Europe and North America. It enhances our support to customers in the region who are increasingly seeking local suppliers to increase supply chain security and sustainability."
For its part, Trelleborg has focused on ensuring sustainable operations at the plant installing solar panels and using temperature control inside the facility, which helps to reduce electricity required for cooling. Wastewater treatments and equipment filters help to ensure more responsible manufacturing, Trelleborg said.
The plant's location also to minimize shipping routes, according the company. It is strategically located in southern Vietnam near Ho Chi Minh City and major ports, allowing for both domestic and international shipments. The availability of skilled work force also allows for quick scale-up should demand increase.
Moreover, the new facility supports Trelleborg's existing customer service center in Ho Chi Mihn City.
