AHMEDABAD, India—Trelleborg Group will invest $6.8 million toward a new marine and infrastructure facility in Ahmedabad, India, with production at the new plant planned for late 2026.
India "represents a robustly growing market," the company said in a statement, and the investment will bolster Trelleborg's position throughout several attractive markets and industries.
"This progress drives an increasing need to upgrade and construct new infrastructure, such as commercial ports—a demand we are set to meet with our upcoming facility," Trelleborg President and CEO Peter Nilsson said in a news release.
Nilsson added that India is "expected to experience healthy growth for many years to come." With sales of over $63.8 million and a new seal plant announced for India in 2023, Trelleborg is looking to meet the Asian country's growing business demand.
Trelleborg has operated in India for over 40 years, and the new facility will be adapted to future requirements to reduce environmental impact, per its sustainability standards. The company is focused on efficient water management and steam production from solar heaters, officials said.
The company noted it already operates in sealing solutions, automotive boots, cable protection for telecom equipment and antivibration solutions for industrial applications, rails, and rolling stock. Trelleborg's IT and engineering centers, which provide technical support for Trelleborg's global offices, also are located in India.
