TRELLEBORG, Sweden—Trelleborg Group has agreed to purchase the office and industrial properties that it currently leases in Kalmar, Sweden.
The site develops and manufactures noise and vibration-damping solutions for light vehicles, namely brake shims, as part of Trelleborg Sealing Solutions.
Subject to Kalmar City Council approval, Trelleborg will purchase the properties from Kalmar Municipality Group, Sweden, for $21.8 million.
"The operation in Kalmar is of global importance to the Trelleborg Group and we believe strongly in its continued success," said Fredrik Nilsson, chief financial officer of Trelleborg Group. "The business has committed employees and a world-class product portfolio. Now that the opportunity has arisen to acquire the properties, we regard it as part of our investment in the future, to further develop the operation and strengthen our presence in Kalmar."
Trelleborg increased capacity in 2019 with a new production line at its Kalmar facility.
"I am pleased that today we have reached an agreement with Trelleborg on a purchase of the properties they currently lease from Kalmar Municipality Group," said Johan Persson, chairman of the Municipal Board of Kalmar. "Trelleborg is an important company for the city of Kalmar.
"Trelleborg will now have access to its own premises, something that has been discussed from time to time during recent years. It also enables the company to continue its expansion in Kalmar, which I welcome."
