SCHENECTADY, N.Y.—SI Group's resole resin facilities in Rotterdam Junction, N.Y., and Lote, India, are slated for capacity expansion, a move that will allow the company to meet growing global demand in the automotive and adhesive sectors.
The resins, according to SI Group, enhance the durability and heat properties of rubber products. For adhesives, they offer improved mechanical and heat resistance, adhesion, open time and weatherability.
Few details about the expansion were offered, though the company did note in a news release that it expects to increase capacity at the two sites by 25 percent. The expansions should be completed by year end.
"These investments are a result of our focused efforts on growth and responding to our customers' needs," Robert Kaiser, vice president of rubber and adhesives solutions at SI Group said in a statement. "They will help provide superior solutions at the highest reliability of supply for our global customer base."
The Schenectady-based company serves the rubber and adhesives, fuels and lubricants, oilfield, pharmaceutical, and industrial resins sectors. In addition to resole resins, SI Group's rubber and adhesive portfolio includes novolac tackifiers, antidegradants, bonding and reinforcing resins.
The company operates 24 facilities globally and employs around 2,800 worldwide.
