DILLINGEN, Germany—Pyrum Innovation A.G. is set to break ground on its second end-of-life tire pyrolysis plant in Perl, Germany.
The move follows receipt of final approval from the local municipal council of Perl-Besch, in the southwestern German state of Saarland, Pyrum said in a May 21 news release. With the official green light, Pyrum GreenFactory II GmbH can now carry out construction work on the property.
"Nothing stands in the way of further planning work and the planned groundbreaking in the second half of 2024," Pyrum CEO Pascal Klein said.
Meanwhile, Pyrum said it also has progressed a ramp-up of an expansion at its flagship ELT pyrolysis plant in Dillingen with the first "hot-run" of line 3 (TAD 3) at the site.
Following the commissioning of TAD 2 earlier this year, the third reactor was heated up for the first time on May 23, the company said. The process involved heating the new reactor to a temperature of around 650°C for the first time.
The TAD 2 and 3 lines are part of Pyrum's scaling up plans at its site in Dillingen, with the aim to process 20,000 metric tons per year of waste tires.
From the commissioning of TAD 2, "we were able to make minor optimizations before the start of TAD 3, which led to a smooth first warm-up of TAD 3," Klein said.
Once the preparatory work is completed, Pyrum expects to carry out the "the first warm-up run" with the production of thermolysis oil and recovered carbon black (rCB).
The aim is to ramp up the throughput of TAD 3 to 75-80 percent of the target output within a few commissioning runs, the company said. Within the next six to twelve months, TAD 2 and TAD 3 will then be successively ramped up to full capacity utilization.
