CLARKSVILLE, Tenn.—Hankook Tire & Technology Co. Ltd. has awarded Hyundai Movex Co. Ltd. a contract valued at $82 million to supply logistics automation for its tire plant in Clarksville.
Hyundai Movex will deliver smart logistics capabilities as part of Hankook's ongoing $1.6 billion expansion project at the Tennessee site.
The contract covers the installation of "advanced equipment and facilities that integrate and control the core logistics process from tire raw materials to manufacturing to finished products," Hyundai Movex said.
In particular, robotic systems, such as self-developed gantry robots, automated guided vehicle and an electrical monorail system will be introduced at the Clarksville plant.
These systems are designed to "significantly increase process and transfer efficiency," Hyundai Movex explained.
Seoul-based Hyundai Movex—an "integrated logistics specialist" that provides optimal total engineering solutions—said the contract represents the "largest single order in the company's history."
In operation since 2017, the Clarksville plant is rated at 5.5 million passenger car tires per year, a total that's expected to double by 2026. The expansion also will add capacity for 1 million truck/bus tires per year, solidifying the tire maker's committment to North America.
Hyundai Elevator Logistics Division, the predecessor company to Hyundai Movex, handled the initial logistics automation for the Tennessee plant.
The Korean firm has also supplied smart logistics solutions to Shandong Linglong Tire Co. Ltd.'s tire plant in Zrenjanin, Serbia, and a number of Sailun Group's factories in China.
