BEIJING—Chinese energy and chemicals giant Sinopec has announced the start-up of a major styrene butadiene copolymers plant in Hainan, China.
The $278 million project is operated by a joint venture between Baling New Material and Sinopec subsidiary Hainan Refining & Chemical Co.
The facility has the capacity to produce 170,000 metric tons per year of SBC elastomers, according to Sinopec's April 10 announcement.
This includes a 120,000-ton styrene butadiene styrene plant and a unit to manufacture 50,000 tons of styrene ethylene butadiene styrene products.
