NASHVILLE, Tenn.—Some things just make sense.
And for Firestone Airide, the $26 million investment to add distribution centers is among those "some things." Particularly when it comes to helping Bridgestone Americas Inc. better serve its customers and reduce its carbon footprints.
Bridgestone on April 17 opened two new Airide product distribution centers—one in Williamsburg, Ky., and the other in Dyersburg, Tenn. Both distribution centers are located adjacent to manufacturing facilities.
"Having the distribution centers located next to the manufacturing facilities will help reduce the company's carbon footprint by eliminating the transportation of goods from the two manufacturing facilities to a third-party operated distribution center in Indianapolis," Bridgestone said in a news release.
For Williamsburg, particularly, the addition of the distribution center is notable because it follows an investment for increased capacity of Airide air springs. The capacity expansion was necessary to meet the increased demand for products as the auto industry transitions to more electrified vehicle models.
Bridgestone noted that the Williamsburg distribution center spans 150,000 square feet.
The Dyersburg center is roughly 80,000 square feet.
