Rubber News welcomes new staff members

CUYAHOGA FALLS, Ohio—The Rubber News team is growing again.

As the publication enters its 51st year, the staff remains focused on delivering the highest quality industry news and finding the best ways to reach our readers through digital and print platforms. Moving forward, with three new staff members—Sam Cottrill, Erin Sloan and Christine Kazimer—will help shape the direction.

Cottrill joined the Rubber News team Sept. 20, stepping into the role of online content editor/reporter. In this position, she will oversee the daily management of RN's digital publications and social media. Additionally, she'll help to cover industry news for the print issue and the website.

Prior to joining Rubber News, Cottrill worked as a reporter and copy editor for the Chagrin Valley Times and Geauga Times Courier, weekly publications based in the Cleveland suburb of Chagrin Falls, Ohio. In addition to reporting on several communities and public school districts, she also managed the papers' website, community features and social media.

Cottrill started her journalism career as an intern with the business-to-business publishing company, GIE Media Inc., where she reported on horticulture trends and trades for Garden Center, Nursery Management and Greenhouse Management magazines.

When she's not writing, she can be found on the trails throughout the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, participating at local trivia nights or golfing.

Cottrill, a 2018 graduate of Kent State University, lives in Cuyahoga Falls.

Sloan recently was appointed audience engagement editor for Crain Communications' Polymer Group, which includes Rubber News and sister publications Plastics News, Tire Business, Urethanes Technology International and Sustainable Plastics.

In her new role, Sloan will be responsible for devising and implementing ideas and techniques that help Polymer Group publications best reach and serve their audiences through digital products such as websites, newsletters and social media.

Sloan joined Plastics News as a web producer in July 2019. It was a role in which she helped to shape the look and function of the website. She also managed the publication's social media and multimedia endeavors.

Before Crain, Sloan worked for the Record-Eagle in Traverse City, Mich.

She met her husband, Charlie, at her alma mater, West Virginia University. They have two kids, Clark and Salem.

Kazimer, who joined Rubber News as an inside sales representative on Sept. 13, is tasked with helping to connect the publication with its advertising partners. She brings a wealth of experience to her new role as her background includes sales, marketing, project management and customer service.
