RPN names managing editor, sales director

CUYAHOGA FALLS, Ohio—Rubber & Plastics News has made changes on its editorial and sales staff.

Erin Pustay Beaven has been promoted to the position of managing editor, while Christine Zernick has been named sales director for the publication.

Pustay Beaven brings more than 15 years of print and digital journalism experience to her new role. She joined Crain Communications Inc. in May 2016 as online content editor for Rubber & Plastics News and its sister publication Tire Business. In that position, she managed RubberNews.com and TireBusiness.com, helped with multimedia initiatives and oversaw the brands' social media accounts.

As managing editor, she will help Editor Bruce Meyer oversee the day-to-day flow of RPN's news operations, with responsibility for both the print issue and digital platforms.

Prior to joining Crain, Pustay Beaven was editor of The Suburbanite family of publications, which printed weekly and served communities in the Akron and Canton, Ohio, areas. She also spent eight years at The Independent, a local newspaper in Massillon, Ohio, where she covered education and health, and served as a general news and feature writer.

An avid reader, Pustay Beaven is an advocate for arts, education and public libraries.

Zernick previously was sales director for Tire Business, and now holds the post for both Crain Communications' publications. She will direct the efforts of seven sales representatives in selling advertising and sponsorships for RPN's print issue, digital platforms, and events and conferences.

She is a native of Westfield, NY., officially moving to the Cleveland area after attending John Carroll University. Zernick's first job out of college was with Penton Media. During her 16 years at Penton, she spent the majority of her time on Machine Design, a design and manufacturing book reaching design engineers.

During that time, Zernick also met her husband, John, and started a family by adopting two girls from China.

She started with Crain in April 2012 as the sales director for Tire Business.
