Alexis Garcin elected chairman of USTMA Board of Directors

WASHINGTON—Alexis Garcin, Michelin North America Inc. president and CEO, is chairman of the U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association Board of Directors, which also welcomed two new members during its first meeting for the 2024 fiscal year.

Garcin's two-year term began Oct. 11, and he succeeds Paolo Ferrari, Bridgestone Americas Inc. CEO, in the role.

"I am very honored to serve as chairman of the USTMA board at a time of transformation in the tire industry," Garcin said in a statement. "Since joining the board four years ago, I have witnessed firsthand how the USTMA is driving progress toward a safe, sustainable and innovative tire industry, and I look forward to continuing this journey with my fellow USTMA leaders."

Garcin, who has worked for more than two decades with Michelin, took the helm of the tire maker's North American subsidiary in 2019. Prior to that he held a number of leadership roles in France, Switzerland and Germany.

"Alexis brings decades of global leadership experience to the helm of the U.S. tire manufacturing industry at a significant turning point for both tire safety and environmental sustainability," Anne Forristall Luke, USTMA president and CEO said in a statement. "His work will build on the strong contributions of our outgoing chair, Paolo Ferrari, who saw USTMA through a critical post-COVID recovery and championed major new, innovative approaches to our industry's joint efforts to develop more sustainable products."

Joining the USTMA Board of Directors are David K. Chapman, vice president of public affairs for Michelin North America, and James Tsai, general counsel and secretary for Toyo Tire Holdings of Americas.

At Michelin, Chapman—a U.S. Army veteran with 30 years of service—oversees public policy efforts in U.S. and Canada. He previously led Michelin's government and defense sales business.

Tsai has served in his current role with Toyo since 2016 and has been with the TTHA legal department in 2011. Prior to joining Toyo, he worked in private practice for 15 years specializing in corporate law.

He is a member of the bar in Illinois, California and Washington, D.C.
