MaryAnn Peterson Kanary returns to Cooper-Standard

NORTHVILLE, Mich.—Cooper-Standard Holdings Inc. has named MaryAnn Peterson Kanary as senior vice president, chief legal officer and secretary, effective Aug. 7.

Kanary, who replaces the outgoing Joanna Totsky, will be based at Cooper-Standard's headquarters in Northville and direct all legal compliance functions.

She will report to Chairman and CEO Jeffrey Edwards.

"MaryAnn is an engaging chief legal officer with a demonstrated history of working in publicly traded, international and privately held manufacturing, automotive and construction organizations," Edwards said. "We welcome MaryAnn back to the Cooper-Standard team in her new, expanded position."

Kanary previously worked at Barton Malow Holdings L.L.C. as executive vice president and chief legal officer.

She also served as corporate secretary for Barton Malow Enterprises and as a trustee for The Barton Malow Foundation.

Prior to that, she served in her first stint with Cooper-Standard from 2016 to 2017 as associate general counsel and director of global legal compliance.

She also has worked for Toyoda Gosei North America Corp. (now Toyoda Gosei Americas), Masco Corp. and at the law firms of Butzel Long, P.C. and Goodwin Procter L.L.P.

In 2022, Kanary was honored as a "Notable in Corporate Counsel" by Crain's Detroit Business.

In her own community she serves as a member of the Board of Trustees for the Judson Center and as co-vice chair of the Board of Directors for the YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit.

Cooper-Standard, which saw sales of about $2.53 billion in 2022, supplies sealing and fluid handling systems and components for the transportation and industrial markets. The company has about 23,000 employees.
